Douglas has put pen to paper on a two-year contract – with the option of another season – with Wolves paying Turkish side Konyaspor £1million for his services.

The 27-year-old Scot is back in the UK after a four year absence, with his career having taken an unusual turn when he swapped Dundee United for Lech Poznan in 2013.

Douglas won the Polish league title with Poznan before moving to Konyaspor for a successful 18-month spell in which the club won the Turkish Cup.

The left back today tweeted a farewell message to the Konyaspor fans – and revealed the reasons behind his switch to Molineux.

"Firstly I'd like to say thank you to Konyaspor for giving me the opportunity to come and play in Turkey and be part of a great club while experiencing a beautiful country," he said.

"Also a massive thank you to the supporters, we have had an amazing one and a half years firstly making history by qualifying for the Europa League for the first time and then of course winning the Turkish Cup. These memories will stay with me all my life.

"And the support you guys always gave me, I can't thank you enough, you really are amazing supporters. I hope the club can keep going in the direction it is going.

"I would also like to make clear that me moving to Wolves was never about me being homesick and missing family or my wife wanting (to move) back to the UK, this isn't true.

"Me and my wife were very happy in Konya, there was no problems at all, the only reason I asked to go was because I had a great opportunity to go and play in a great league with a very good team, that was it, purely a football decision.

"Now finally the paperwork has been completed. I can't wait to get started in this new chapter of my career.

"I know the expectations and ambition everyone involved with Wolves has and hopefully I can be a part of helping achieve this.

"Now the hard work begins."

Douglas was the fourth signing of the summer for Wolves. Fellow defenders Roderick Miranda, Ryan Bennett and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh have also signed, while centre half Willy Boly is expected to imminently join on a season-long loan deal.

Portuguese wonderkid Ruben Neves should sign for a club record £15m before the squad leaves for a pre-season trip to Austria on Monday.
