Saints expecting a battle at home

Defender Ryan Astles anticipates another tough game when The New Saints return to Park Hall for tomorrow’s home clash against Flint Town United (2.30pm).

After being promoted to the JD Welsh Premier, Flint have made a solid start to life in the top flight with two victories from their opening five league matches this season.

“It’s going to be another tough game,” said Astles. “They’re going to come in and obviously watch us, the way we play, and they’ll have a game plan of how they’re going to deal with us, so it’s going to be a tough one. But we’ll get back in training now and head towards that game.”

Saints, who remain unbeaten in the league following an impressive start to the season, are awaiting the outcome after their latest league match at Bala Town on Wednesday night was abandoned after 87 minutes owing to floodlight failure.

That happened just after Astles had pulled TNS level at 2-2, adding to a brilliant goal from Leo Smith, as Saints hit back after trailing 2-0 at the break.

“We were on top all second half,” said Astles. “I don’t think they had a shot, so it looked like we were going to go on and, if not, we get the draw, which was probably a good result from being 2-0 down.”
