Goalkeeper Paul Harrison was the hero after 120 minutes of goalless football in the Irn-Bru Cup. The 32-year-old shot-stopper saved two penalties and smashed in the final spot-kick to see his side triumph 4-3 in a dramatic shootout and book a place in the last four.

It was back to winning ways for The Saints, who lost their last Welsh Premier League clash with Barry Town.

The tie was not short on entertainment, with both sides squandering a number of opportunities in front of goal.

“It was end-to-end, great for the neutral, great for both sets of fans,” said Ruscoe.

“It was a bit of a rollercoaster but some of the football we played was really pleasing to watch.

“These players are doing every single thing we ask and I’ve just told them I’m proud of every one of them.”

Merseyside goalkeeper Harrison’s winner packed some punch: “I thought I should have saved the one before so there was a bit of anger in my one!” he said.

“I think if it had hit the keeper it would have put him in the back of the net with it so I was just happy to see it go in.

“It’s just relief. Everyone was that happy to take us over the line into a semi-finals.”
