The New Saints miss out on treble

Ian Williams insists everybody at The New Saints is ‘really disappointed’ after their Welsh Cup final loss to Bala Town.

Oswestry-based Saints took the lead at the Bangor University Stadium through Greg Draper, but were pegged back through Jordan Evans and Kieran Smith to deny Craig Harrison’s men a third consecutive treble.

Williams, Saints’ chief operating officer, said: “It was one of those games. I think everybody is really disappointed.

“We know we can play better but all credit to Bala – they have got that late goal. We just didn’t have enough in the tank, I suppose, to get something back with only a few minutes remaining.

“I suppose the neutral will say it is nice to see somebody else winning the trophy. I am sure Craig, the staff, and the players in the dressing room will be really disappointed.”

He added: “We are not used to losing games.

“Unfortunately it was not to be for us. It was not our day.”
