The Town manager has revealed he is happy with what he has at his disposal following Tuesday night’s deadline but admitted he will explore the free transfers who remain without a club.

Cotterill suggested there could ‘maybe’ be movement in the next week but he is insistent that he will only add in positions he feels are needed. Town were trying for deals for a defensive midfielder and right-back prior to the deadline.

“I’ve had a couple of contacts already with people, but the trouble is they’re not what I want, position-wise,” Cotterill said.

“Whether that happens within the next week or so, maybe something will come around. But I’m OK with it.

Steve Cotterill the head coach / manager of Shrewsbury Town.

“I will get somebody in if it’s worth it but it’ll be six weeks to get them up to speed, because they probably haven’t had a proper pre-season.

“We need to see if there’s anybody out there worth bringing in, but it’ll be more position-specific.”

Town’s squad stands at 21, including three goalkeepers. The manager had made clear of his intent to bring down the numbers during the summer, from the large squad of 29 he inherited last year.

Football League players still without a club include attacking midfielder Dan Crowley, who almost joined Cheltenham, and fellow midfielder George Thorne.

Also without a club are experienced strikers Kieran Agard and Connor Wickham, and wingers Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Josh Sims and Kadeem Harris.

Shrewsbury-born right-back Billy Jones is also a free agent, as is ex-Town man Marc Pugh.
