Rangers made it title No.55 with former Shrewsbury Town favourite Goldson at the heart of their triumph, having played every minute of every match as Steven Gerrard's men chalked up 102 points.

The Glasgow club lifted the Scottish Premiership trophy at Ibrox after a resounding 4-0 victory over fourth-placed Aberdeen, which broke the 100 points mark, a 32nd win from 38 league games.

Centre-back Goldson, 28, who made 120 appearances for Town between 2010 and 2015 having come through the club's academy, has been a stalwart of the Rangers team since moving north in 2018.

Goldson said: "I'm just so proud, a little bit emotional, three years I've been here now and it's all been worth it for today.

"It's unfortunately without the fans, but this moment, what we've achieved together this season, has been unbelievable.

"It's been a long time coming for this club, I've been here long enough now to meet a lot of people in Glasgow, Rangers fans, to know what this club means for so many.

"It's a proud day for everybody and we will cherish it for a long time.

"We weren't at our best but we beat the fourth-best team in the league 4-0. Our record is amazing.

"A lot of people have spoken about Celtic this season, how they've fallen away, but not many people give us credit for what we've done, unbeaten with 102 points is a magnificent achievement."

Goldson's journey to Rangers king has been a remarkable one. At former club Brighton, who he joined from Salop in 2015, he underwent heart surgery after a defect was discovered in 2017.

He appeared just three times in the Premier League for the Seagulls after helping them to promotion from the Championship. And – following successful surgery – Gerrard brought him to Ibrox.

The Gers signed off a stunning campaign by thrashing Aberdeen, with a Joe Lewis own goal, former West Brom youngster Kemar Roofe double and veteran striker Jermain Defoe on target.

And Ibrox celebrations – along with that of many thousands of Rangers fans in the streets of Glasgow – at ending Celtic's stranglehold on the top flight title will live long in the memory for the defender.

Goldson added: "We were fortunate today, I don't know if we deserved the clean sheet, our defending was a bit poor at times.

"But we got another one, a 26 of the season, a record, record (fewest) goals conceded, so it's been amazing.

"We've gone unbeaten, we've broke records along the way, it's a team now that will be spoken about for a long time."
