The short trip to Cheshire will be the 27th and final game in which Shrewsbury’s assistant will be leading the way from the dugout with the manager calling the shots from the stands.

Town are 17th in League One ahead of the final clash. Wilbraham said: “I’ll have time to reflect on all that’s happened over the four or five months.

“But we want to finish the job properly, it’s always nice to finish with a win, we won’t go there in holiday mode, the manager and us will make sure of that.

“The lads will be up for it, they’ve trained well.

“It’s been a great experience for me to have this kind of exposure, I didn’t feel pressure while he was away, but I still had a really relieved, relaxed feeling when the manager was back.

“I’ll happily give the reins back, it’ll be nice to be assistant now, I know more now what he needs from me.”
