The versatile midfielder, 24, has endured a frustrating time on the sidelines since Steve Cotterill was appointed in charge at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

Walker suffered the injury late on in the 2-2 home draw against Accrington on December 2, which was Cotterill's first league game in charge of Town, played in front of spectators at the Meadow.

The former Wrexham man has stepped up his rehab in recent weeks, running outside on the training pitches at Sundorne Castle after extensive gym work.

Stand-in boss Aaron Wilbraham said: "Brad joined in with the lads today and looked really good.

"It's good news to have him back, whether or not he'll be involved on Saturday (against Fleetwood) or not we're not sure yet.

"But he's been training and will be re-assessed tomorrow."

Walker was a shining light for Town in the early weeks of the season, putting in a number of impressive displays under former boss Sam Ricketts.

He can also fill in at centre-half, particularly in the back three employed by Cotterill, and was playing that role when picking up the injury in December.

Wilbraham added: "I know of him anyway, but just looking at him on his first day back he looks like a really good footballer and he will be ready to kick on. It was bad luck getting that injury so it'll be good to see him back."

Walker's return could prove timely as skipper Ollie Norburn is set for a spell out with a possible hip or glute injury. Norburn, who limped out early in Tuesday's draw against AFC Wimbledon, had a scan yesterday and the club are awaiting results from the radiologist.

Town also have David Davis, Sean Goss and Dave Edwards as options.

Goalkeeper Matija Sarkic had a tight quad on Tuesday night and refrained from kicking during the Dons contest. Wilbraham said there is no issue with on-loan Wolves man featuring on Saturday. Josh Daniels is expected to be fine after coming off with cramp late on.
