The attacker, 21, has been unable to break through to the first-team fold since Steve Cotterill’s appointment and has been snapped up by the National North leaders.

Barnett could make his Tigers debut at Alfreton tomorrow night but how many games he will play for Gloucester is unclear, while clubs at that level await the outcome of a vote to end the season.

Barnett, from Dothill in Telford, has enjoyed three excellent loan spells in step two of non-league previously, with hometown club AFC Telford.

Attacker Barnett has been with Shrewsbury since aged eight and signed a new one-year deal – with the option of another year – last summer.

He enjoyed a breakthrough opening to the season under Sam Ricketts, turning out 12 times for the first team, where he netted twice, both in the EFL Trophy.
