The 24-year-old, from America, has caught the attention of a number of English Football League clubs with highly impressive displays for Portadown in the second tier of Northern Ireland football.

He was on trial in Shrewsbury a couple of months ago, according to boss Ricketts, where he impressed.

The Town chief said: “He came in probably a couple of months ago and is a good player and a nice lad.

“There’s nothing imminent happening there, but I did see the report.”

Ricketts added that Northern Ireland is a nation Town are monitoring closely.

“We know that area pretty well,” he added. “He’s just someone who has done well this year.

“But he came in a couple of months ago and there’s nothing much else to report at the moment.”

Edwards is also interesting Blackburn and Burnley, where he has been on trial. While with the latter, he spent time training with former Shrewsbury keeper and ex-England star Joe Hart.
