Shaun Whalley in good shape after Shrewsbury return

Winger Shaun Whalley hopes his injury problems are behind him after feeling in fine fettle following 90 minutes at Bristol Rovers.

Town’s No.7 started his first game for almost four months at the Memorial Stadium and netted to put Sam Ricketts’ side ahead. Now he is raring to make it two starts in a week with Saturday’s visit of Burton.

The 31-year-old said: “Obviously I’ve wanted to play but the gaffer’s been honest with me from the start, telling me where and how long I’ll get.

“He’s stuck to his word, it’s definitely worked. I lasted for 90 minutes (at Bristol Rovers) fairly comfortably.

“I feel sound, not like I’ll have any recurring injuries – touch wood – I’m looking forward to the run-in.

“I’ve come off after the game and everything was fine so I’m just looking forward to another game, hopefully.”

Whalley netted his third goal of the season against the Gas, one of his other goals was at home to the Brewers at the beginning of the season in a League Cup first round defeat.

“At the end of the day it’s for us to go out there and perform those roles. He’s brought a lot of good players in,” added the winger.

“If you don’t perform you’re going to be out of the team. It’s the old cliché one game at a time, starting with Burton and a good week of training.”
