Lucky supporters braved the cold to collect the first batch of tickets that went on sale for the Montgomery Waters Meadow clash next Saturday (3pm).

By the close of play, the club had shifted 2,500, with Wolves allocated 1,700.

Chief executive Brian Caldwell said: “We are delighted to see the early interest in the match and even opened the ticket office an hour earlier to save so many people queueing for another hour in the cold.

“A fourth round FA Cup tie against our nearest rivals which isn’t live on TV, I am sure we will see a sell out in due course.”

The tie sees neighbours Wolves travel across the M54 for the first competitive meeting between the clubs since their League One face-off in the 2013/14 season. Dave Edwards came on a substitute for Wolves that day but, a fortnight after returning to his boyhood Salop, the Pontesbury midfielder is set for a fairytale reunion with the side he gave nine years’ service.

Tickets went on sale yesterday morning for season ticket holders only, including sovereign members. And a number of families took advantage of the club’s offer to secure an additional adult ticket and two child tickets alongside the original purchase.

Tickets go on sale from Sunday to Town fancard holders and non season ticket holders with 10 or more loyalty points.

They are then available for fans with one to nine loyalty points next Tuesday and Wednesday, before general sale (subject to availability) from Thursday onward.

The clash also sees Town boss Sam Ricketts take on the side he won the League One title with in the 13/14 campaign.

Town reached the fourth round thanks to a terrific comeback against Championship side Stoke City in Tuesday’s replay at the Bet365 Stadium, where they were 2-0 with 20 minutes remaining but scored three times in 10 minutes to win 3-2.

Tickets are also available on ticket sale website Ticketmaster.
