Mat Sadler: Sam Ricketts perfect fit for Shrewsbury

Skipper Mat Sadler insists new boss Sam Ricketts has 'slotted in perfectly' at Shrewsbury Town.

Ricketts took the Town reins earlier this week after leaving Wrexham – his first managerial post.

He oversaw a 2-1 win over Walsall in the Checkatrade Trophy on Wednesday and made his League One dugout debut at Burton today.

"It's great to have a young, ambitious manager who is desperate to do well," said Sadler.

"It kind of fit perfectly with the people who we had here – there's a real Welsh vibe about us all of a sudden.

"Catatonia is on the dressing room, Tom Jones being played as well.

"It fits well. They all know each other from different walks of life – Danny (Coyne) having played with the manager, Eric (Ramsay) having done some of his coaching with him.

"There's real continuity and respect amongst all of them, and he has slotted in perfectly.

"The manager brings real ambition – determination and desire to succeed.

"And that's exactly what we want, a manager who is desperate to do well for the town and put this town on the map again, as we were last season.

Ricketts is only a few years older than Sadler – but the defender does not find that strange, at all.

He insists that respect from player to manager always exists, irrespective of age.

"I don't think age comes into it, personally," added Sadler, who is keen to pursue a career in management in the future.

"There's always a respect between player and manager that I will maintain throughout my playing career."
