Bulked-up Abo Eisa is a better option for Shrewsbury Town that when he first joined the club, believes boss John Askey.

Eisa was brought in by former boss Paul Hurst in January from non-League Wealdstone FC, where Salop saw off competition from League One rivals for his signature.

The 22-year-old, primarily a winger, caught the eye towards the back end of last season, where he netted once in five outings.

Eisa was a regular for John Askey’s Shrewsbury in pre-season, but is yet to kick a ball competitively for Town’s new boss. Askey was ready to loan Eisa out for first-team football in August but a knee injury prevented his temporary departure.

And, while sidelined, the pacy attacker has been working on his physicality in a move that could boost Town now he has returned to training.

“I think we can start looking at him to be part of it,” said Askey.

“It will be interesting because he does bring something different to us.”

Askey’s current 3-5-2 formation negates the use of wingers, but the boss believes Eisa is capable of playing centrally.

He added: “I think with him, he can play down the middle as well.

“If you look at him now compared to when he first came to the club, he’s a lot bigger and stronger.”
