The Brentford star underwent a medical at the Potters today ahead of an initial loan move which will become permanent in January.

Town will profit from a sell-on clause inserted in the deal that took him from Shrewsbury to Brentford, for a fee worth up to £1m, in 2015.

Shrewsbury will receive 20 per cent of the profit the Bees make on Woods.

The windfall, which should be north of £1m, will not all be made immediately available in Town’s coffers and could instead be paid to Shrewsbury over a period of time.

Chief executive Brian Caldwell said after Connor Goldson's switch from Brighton to Rangers earlier in the summer that he expected the Goldson clause to be 'drip fed' to Town.

Similar is likely to be the case with Woods' transfer.

Firm Meadow favourite Woods, 24, came through the academy set-up at Town before making 103 first-team appearances in all competitions.

The Staffordshire-born midfielder has since established himself as a top Championship performer, where he has made 115 starts for Brentford.
