Shrewsbury duo to be loaned out to help development

Shrewsbury Town intend to send attackers Abo Eisa and Arthur Gnahoua out on loan to aid their development.

Neither player has been involved in boss John Askey's matchday 18 in the first four games this season.

Askey is a fan of both players and hailed their ability during pre-season. Eisa has been linked with a loan to Swindon with other League Two clubs keen.

But neither have been able to force their way into his thoughts, with wingers Shaun Whalley and Alex Gilliead impressing.

Town youngsters Ryan Barnett has been on the bench – to fill the EFL's new homegrown quota – alongside Fejiri Okenabirhie and fellow new signing Lee Angol.

Askey said after the 0-0 draw with Blackpool: "I think there's one or two we can get out to get games and improve as players.

"Eisa's obviously one of those that needs to play if he continues to improve. It's no use him coming in, playing the odd game or so, he's not going to improve.

"It's something we need to look at, same with Arthur."

On Saturday Luke Hendrie become the 16th player to leave permanently or on loan from Town as he joined League Two Grimsby on loan until January.

Askey added on the right-back: "It gives him chance to get games. He didn't get many games last year and the first thing he said when I came through the door was 'I need to play games'. He needed to get out and play.

"Like any player you want to know you're playing.

"It leaves us a little bit short at full-back. If anything does happen we'll look to bring a loan in or obviously Omar can play there. We've got (Ryan) Sears who's at Telford who can play there."

"We've got a big-ish squad that needs to be trimmed down a little bit before we can add anything to it."
