Askey is desperate to repay the faith shown in him by Shrewsbury after he was appointed on a three-year deal this summer.

The boss, who has lost all of his first three games as manager, says he feels privileged to manage the club and wants his players to feel likewise. Last season’s beaten play-off side Town welcome managerless Blackpool today in search of their first points of the Askey era.

And when asked about turning around his side’s run of form, the boss said: “There’s nothing more that I want than to repay the faith that’s been showed to me at Shrewsbury and give the Shrewsbury Town supporters something to shout about and to play good, attractive football.

“It hurts when you can’t but we’re only two (league) games in, there’s still plenty of time to get what we want. But nothing would give me more pleasure than being able to do that. When you see people turn up for games of football.

“And I’ve got to try and get that through to the players.”

Askey made 15 summer signings in his first summer in charge at Montgomery Waters Meadow. Fifteen players, including loanees, went in the other direction.

The boss continued: “They are privileged to play for Shrewsbury and that’s how they should feel every time they go out.

“I do as a manager and I’m sure the players do.”
