Town are yet to secure a positive result after going down to three defeats from three outings under Askey and the boss, who was desperate to get off to a good start with Shrewsbury, knows the significance of managerless Blackpool’s visit.

Askey was critical of his side’s ‘naivety’ after their latest defeat, a 2-1 Carabao Cup reverse to Burton.

Blackpool, who had boss Gary Bowyer walk out after just one game this term, have just a point from two league games but progressed in the League Cup by defeating Barnsley 3-1.

Askey said: “You’ve got to be strong mentally. As a player you’ve got to keep trying to work it out.

“Especially the younger ones. You don’t want players who are going to be hiding, it’s important they believe in what they’re doing.

“There are just one or two things they’ve got to improve on. If they do that then we’ll be fine. If they don’t then I’ll look at other ways to get results.”

The Town boss is hopeful striker Aaron Amadi-Holloway recovers from a groin problem to be fit for the Seasiders’ visit. Ollie Norburn and James Bolton, who suffered dead legs on Tuesday night, should be OK.
