Charlie Taylor's own goal after fine work from Fejiri Okenabirhie was the difference at Burnley's training ground.

Askey's men remained unbeaten in three pre-season games after a victory over Kidderminster and draw at Bristol City.

The boss was left all smiles with his side's display at Championship Bristol City last weekend but, despite securing the win this time around, feels their is plenty to improve on.

“I’m not as pleased as I was against Bristol,” Askey said.

“I know we won but it’s performances that I want and I wasn’t happy with the performance today, especially first half.

“There is plenty to work on but it’s another good work out. Obviously we’re playing against good players, they’re Premier League players.

“Obviously we’re playing against quality but we need to be better than we were today. Hopefully we can sort that out during the training sessions and move on to Saturday.

“The main thing is getting it right for the first game of the season. You have got to set you’re standards higher. We wont get carried away because we did win, we need to work harder than we did today.”

Midfield star Jon Nolan was absent with illness while winger Abo Eisa missed the game because he was attending his university graduation.

Zak Jules, who also missed the trip to Ashton Gate, was absent.

Askey added: "Jon rang at five o’clock this morning to say he’d been up all night. Hopefully he will be OK for Saturday (against Brentford at Montgomery Waters Meadow)

“Abo had his graduation day. I thought it was only fair that he went to his graduation. He’s worked hard to achieve it.

“He doesn’t lack fitness so I’m not too worried about him.”
