The 22-year-old made 21 appearances as the Sky Blues won promotion from League Two via the play-offs last season.

He has penned a two-year deal at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

"I'm really pleased to be here. I'm happy to get started and hit the ground running," Haynes told ShrewsWeb.

"We're in next week so I'm looking forward to meeting all the lads and getting my first training session in.

"It's a good club – I've just seen the training ground for the first time and it's very nice.

"It's a whole new challenge for me, having been at Coventry since I was a very young lad.

"I started at Coventry when I was eight so I'd been there for a very long time. I owe a lot to the club but this is a new challenge.

"It's a change, a new start. It will be good for me, sometimes you get comfortable at a club and it's good to move out of your comfort zone.

"Hopefully we can take one step further than last year. It's a very good club, hopefully we can progress to the Championship.

"It was a no-brainer. I'm looking forward to meeting the manager, meeting all the lads. It'll be good."

Haynes in action for Coventry

Haynes played 78 times for Coventry and had a 10-game loan spell at Cambridge United in 2016.

When asked why they went in for him, Salop assistant John Filan said: "The player he is now, and the potential we believe he possesses.

"I think Shrewsbury has a history of giving people an opportunity to prove themselves.

"With Ryan, we had a good look at him and we investigated his background as much as possible – asked people about the lad.

"He seems a confident young man, who is really desperate to get an opportunity.

"Fortunately we've got him, to give him that opportunity. It's up to the lad to reach the potential we believe he has."
