Alex Rodman ponders his Shrewsbury Town future

Alex Rodman will consider his Shrewsbury future this summer – but admits failure has fuelled the fire to push on next time.

The winger triggered an extension in his initial 18-month Montgomery Waters Meadow contract and has been offered a new deal.

Rodman, 31, has made 75 appearances in all competitions since joining Town in January 2017, when he was Paul Hurst’s second signing.

The former Notts County man revealed he has enjoyed the best spell of his career with Salop.

John Askey has revealed he favours a 4-3-3 with wide players either side of a lone forward.

“Possibly I’ve got to think,” Rodman, who hauled Town level against Rotherham at Wembley, said.

“I’ll have to digest the (Wembley) defeat. Work out what’s going on.

“The fact is I’ve absolutely loved this year. I’ve loved it since I’ve walked into Shrewsbury. There’s no doubt this is my most enjoyable time at a football club.

“It’s been a privilege to play for Shrewsbury this year. It’s going to be a tough summer.”

Joining Shrewsbury was Rodman’s first opportunity to play in League One after rising through the pyramid. A decade ago he was preparing for a season in the Conference North with Tamworth.

But a fine season, including nine goals from the wing in 55 outings, has made the winger hungry to taste more.

“That dressing room has been a privilege to be in. We’ve created some great memories but the overriding emotion now is having nothing to show for it and that’s what really hurts the most,” he added.

“It has given me confidence to compete at this level. Whetted my appetite for more days like Wembley. The buzz and the excitement to be involved in.

“But wanting to come out on the winning side of it fuels the drive to do it again. This is why you play football. You want to be involved in it.”

Meanwhile, reports Town are interested in Sheffield United keeper George Long are wide of the mark.
