Chiltern Railways has announced that major engineering work will take place between Birmingham New Street and Coventry via Birmingham International this coming bank holiday weekend.

As Wembley gears up for three play-offs, Birmingham gets ready for Pride and Coventry prepares for the BBC’s Big Weekend, Chiltern Railways has warned that their services will be exceptionally busy.

In an attempt to accommodate the swell of people, the company has added an additional 10,000 seats on services between Birmingham Moor Street and London Marylebone stations.

Chiltern Railways has said that it has been trying to make major improvements to the network around Birmingham for a long time.

Eleni Jordan Commercial Director for Chiltern Railways, said: “We want to make sure everyone who wants to travel by rail can, but we need passengers to know that Chiltern Railways trains will be very busy, and they should allow extra time for their journey.

Demand

“To meet demand, Chiltern Railways have added 10,000 additional seats to our services over the three days to provide capacity for any additional people that wish to travel with us between Birmingham and London Marylebone.

"We’ll also have extra people at our stations to help and advise. We appreciate your patience during this busy time.”

To increase the overall number of trains available there will be no Chiltern Railways services between Birmingham Snow Hill and Birmingham Moor Street stations over the bank holiday weekend.

Customers attending Wembley Stadium for the Championship play-off are advised that the wait time for their return train journey will be longer than usual.

Supporters travelling back to Birmingham from Marylebone are advised that the last service will depart at 10.10pm.

Chiltern Railways is advising passengers to purchase their tickets in advance, check timetables for amended times before travelling and to remain patient as stations will be much busier than usual.
