Shrewsbury Town reach the League One play-off final at Wembley – How they rated
Shrewsbury Town booked a Wembley ticket for the second time in a quite remarkable season with a 2-0 aggregate victory over Charlton in the League One play-off semi finals.
Paul Hurst's men will do battle with either Rotherham or Scunthorpe in the final on May 27.
Here Town reporter Lewis Cox rates the blue and amber heroes as their 1-0 Montgomery Waters Meadow victory last night led to some memorable scenes.
Man of the match
Toto Nsiala
Stunning performance from the rock at the heart of Shrewsbury’s defence. Nsiala was tremendous in the 1-0 win at The Valley and somehow even better in the second leg. He dealt with absolutely everything tossed his way and never looked in trouble. With the centre-half in this kind of form Town look imperious at the back. 9/10
Dean Henderson
Crucial claim in the first period when he bravely dived at the feet of Joe Aribo to claim. Charlton did not work Henderson as much as they would have liked and the keeper did well for the most as high ball were tossed in. 8/10
James Bolton
Super calm on the ball whenever in possession and helped Town by joining in attacks, particularly in the second half. His defensive contribution can never be doubted. 8/10
Mat Sadler
Like his central defensive partner Nsiala, Sadler was at his best to hold a star Addicks attacking line-up at arm’s length. What a leader he has been this season. 8/10
Omar Beckles
Totally at ease in a position he has made his own over the season. Beckles did the basics as part of an incredibly drilled and organised Town defence that never looked in trouble. 8/10
Ben Godfrey
The Godfrey Shrewsbury Town have come to love. Battled, ran, won every tackle. Unbelievable physical display. 9/10
Shaun Whalley
His deliveries were more or less on the money and the assist for Town’s winner was stunning. Great burst of pace and pull-back. 9/10
Bryn Morris
Almost matched his stunning performance at The Valley with another of his best. Not afraid to get stuck in, battled and used the ball very well. 8/10
Jon Nolan
Took a knock early on but played through and was again crucial to Town’s slick attacking. Always seems to be at the heart of their best moves. 9/10
Alex Rodman
Rodman near his best. Lung-bursting charges down the flank to get his team going. Super performance from a fine player. 9/10
Carlton Morris
The biggest goal of his career to date – and what a finish. Stunning drilled effort under Ben Amos. Worked his socks of for the cause and topped it with his 10th goal of the season. 9/10
