Paul Hurst delighted with 'big' Shrewsbury Town win
Paul Hurst hailed Shrewsbury's comeback win in the snow as a 'big' result as his time climbed back into League One's top two.
A fine turnaround after going in at the break one-nil down saw Shrews chalk up a fifth away win on the bounce to go just two points behind leaders Blackburn.
Jon Nolan leveled for Town shortly into the second period before Stefan Payne smashed in a penalty on the hour mark to seal it.
Hurst felt his side lacked threat in the first period as the snow and whistling wind caused havoc. The Iron netted inside 10 minutes as Josh Morris' wind-assisted free-kick somehow dropped under the crossbar.
Dean Henderson recovered to keep out a penalty before the break to keep Town in touch.
"It feels like a big win, I'm really pleased for the players. In the second-half we had more than a threat," said Hurst.
"In the first-half we had some of the ball but didn't carry enough threat. They got in a couple of times.
"In the second-half I think we were well in the ascendancy.
"I know that their home form has been what they'd quite like but we still had to come here and win.
"The conditions were challenging for both teams. It was an excellent day for us."
Hurst added that he felt concerned at half-time about the state of the Glanford Park surface.
"It (the missed penalty) proved to be the turning point. I asked before the game about the chance of it being abandoned and what happens.
"At half-time there was some concern. Thankfully we just about finished in time. It was getting heavier but thankfully we got it finished.
"I'm pleased for the supporters as well who risked travelling and it's another good weekend for us."
Hurst continued by adding praise to goalscorers Nolan and Payne, who scored their seventh and twelfth goals of the season.
Payne entered the clash as a first-half sub for the injured Ben Godfrey, who has a slight hamstring strain.
The boss added: "I didn't say anything to Jon but I was thinking he was due a goal. A bit of quality, a good bit of skill from Carlton (Morris) and an excellent finish. A goal to grace any game.
"It looked a penalty to me. I didn't think Scunthorpe had many grievances with it. I have to say, I know it's a penalty but we've seen two today, it was a great finish from Stefan - I'm pleased for him.
"He's obviously found it difficult, being out of the team, he's trained extremely well for the last two weeks I'd suggest, and today he gets his reward.
"With the conditions and scoreline Bryn (Morris) was the obvious change to make but the conditions influenced the decision and thankfully it went our way."
