Shrewsbury Town is a great loan destination – Ben Godfrey

Midfielder Ben Godfrey believes his successful loan spell at Shrewsbury will help attract other young stars to the club.

The Norwich man, 20, has caught the eye this season with a series of impressive displays, becoming a favourite at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

Canaries star Godfrey, who is reportedly being monitored by Premier League clubs including West Bromwich Albion, is joined by other young guns at Town in Derby’s Max Lowe, 20, Norwich team-mate Carlton Morris, 22, and Manchester United star Dean Henderson, 20.

And he believes their success makes the Meadow an attractive destination for other players seeking regular first-team football.

“We’ve got a good set-up here and good lads as well,” said the midfielder, whose original loan to January was extended until the end of the season.

“Where we are in the league table looks really nice for a loan player.

“If you come to Shrewsbury you’re going to learn due to the staff, you get things from them ingrained into you.

“I’d definitely recommend Shrewsbury as a loan club for young lads.”

Meanwhile, Shrewsbury are set to wait until after their scheduled Checkatrade Trophy semi-final with Yeovil on Tuesday before confirming a new date for the postponed clash with Peterborough.

The League One clash was called off yesterday morning after a pitch inspection deemed the surface to be unplayable.

“We will look at rearranged dates next week,” said chief executive Brian Caldwell.

“We will probably wait until after Tuesday to see if we can get Tuesday on OK.

“The weather is supposed to improve between Sunday and Tuesday, so hopefully the players can get a training session on Monday and we can get Tuesday night on.

“After that we will look at what available dates we’ve got to fit in Peterborough and by that time we will hopefully know whether we’ve reached the Checkatrade final as well, which will affect our away game with Northampton.”
