Paul Hurst revealed Shrewsbury defender James Bolton could face weeks on the sidelines with ankle ligament damage – but praised the way replacement Luke Hendrie performed at Charlton.

Right-back Bolton's afternoon in the capital lasted little more than five minutes after he damaged his ankle while making a challenge – and fouling – former Town loanee Sullay Kaikai.

The ex-Stoke youngster attempted to play on but was replaced by Hendrie, a January signing from Burnley, shortly afterwards.

Hendrie has so far started twice for Town, in a 2-2 draw with Doncaster and 2-1 win at Fleetwood, and impressed on both occasions. He caught Hurst's eye again with a solid defence and offensive display as Shrews ran out comfortable and deserved 2-0 winners at The Valley.

"We lost Bolts quite early and early indications are that he'll be a few weeks," said Hurst.

"It's his ankle ligaments. He felt his knee at the time but that's nothing to worry about I don't think, maybe just the ankle.

"Luke came on and did great. I have to say it wasn't an easy game for him.

"He's been a bit unfortunate because he's played a couple of games, started both extremely well and then not been involved too much. It's not a bad thing as a defender!

"It was similar at Charlton to be honest, though he did play a couple of really good balls in that second-half.

"We reacted well and I just thought we looked a threat, more solid, winning second balls, on the front foot – a real positive performance in front of a really vocal away following.

"It's really pleasing when you can send them home happy on a long journey and sets us up brilliantly for Tuesday night (Checkatrade Trophy semi-final with Yeovil)"
