Paul Hurst's men put in one of their best displays of the season to down the play-off chasing hosts, who had lost just once in seven league games going into the clash.

The winger, who turned 31 last week, broke the deadlock with a scorching strike from just inside the left corner of the Charlton box that arrowed into the opposite top corner. Omar Beckles' header wrapped up the points for Salop.

It was Rodman's seventh goal of the season and he explained that even Charlton top scorer and Northern Ireland international Magennis hailed Town's quality.

"We were back to our best all over the pitch," he said.

"Their number nine Magennis said to me in the 80th minute that no-one's come and done that to them all season, he said 'you boys are different class all over the pitch' and that he can see why we're up there. A big compliment."

Rodman added praise for the 1,254 Town fans that made the trip to south-east London, making up a crowd of more than 17,000 – a season-high for the stadium.

"The support was brilliant and I think the boys showed at the end what it meant to them," added Town's No.23.

"We're really grateful for their support and what a day out it was. We're really glad to be able to send them home happy.

"It sets us up for Tuesday which is playing for Wembley and hopefully we get a good turnout there."
