Shrewsbury Town's Carlton Morris relishes the physical battle

Carlton Morris insists Shrewsbury still have the belief to handle the heat of a promotion race despite back-to-back home defeats.

The frontman put in a man of the match display but was unable to get on the mark in Saturday 1-0 defeat against Rotherham.

Norwich loanee Morris faced a tough, physical afternoon against 6ft 4in Semi Ajayi and 6ft 3in Richard Wood in the Millers backline.

But despite consecutive home defeats, and with another in-form side in Gillingham coming to the Meadow tonight, Morris explained Town relish the challenges.

“They are intense battles but I’ve played at this level and I’ve played in the Championship, that’s what you’ve got to deal with,” said the 22-year-old.

“If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. If you can’t deal with these monsters...it’s just about changing your game up.

“Sometimes you’re playing against a short centre-back you can dominate physically sometimes it’s against centre-back like those that you have to run and hope the service is good.”

Morris, who has equalised a career-best season tally of eight goals this term, added: “Every team that comes here seems to be on an unbeaten run at the moment.

“We relish that, to be honest, it hasn’t gone our way in the last couple but whoever comes here we know we can beat them. We’re still full of confidence.

“Every team will come here, or when we go to them, expecting a tough game. We rarely disappoint to be fair, we keep on going.

“There’s a lot of belief and everyone knows about our camaraderie in the squad. We’ve got a lot of legs, willing runners and good attitudes. We’ll dig deep as a team and grind it out.”
