Derby loanee Lowe, 20, played alongside Hendrie – who last week signed on a permanent basis from Burnley – for a period with the Rams youth set-up.

Full-back Hendrie, who can also play in midfield, is yet to feature for Town’s first-team but played 18 times while on loan with Bradford earlier this season.

“As a person he’s very professional off the pitch,” said Lowe. “He doesn’t take any days off, he’s a very hard-working player.

“On the pitch he’s similar to me in that he can play right-back and left-back too. He can get up and down and he’s a very good defender.

“He can also play the midfield role too. He’s very versatile and mature for his age.”

Hendrie, 23, has previously impressed in loan spells at York and Kilmarnock. Shrews boss Paul Hurst has been impressed with the Yorkshireman’s character

“I’m backing him to become a part of this club for a couple of years to come,” added Lowe, who was with Hendrie in the east Midlands from 2013 until 2015. “I know what he’s got in him. He wants to be here and parts of a promotion team. I know he’s got what it takes to do it because he’s a talented lad.” On mixing in his new Town surroundings, Lowe said: “Ben (Godfrey) is a similar age to me and Rodders has taken me under his wing quite well as a senior player.”
