Shrewsbury set to complete second January signing – as Burnley man Luke Hendrie heavily linked
Shrewsbury are poised to complete a signing in the next 24 hours – after being linked with Burnley defender Luke Hendrie over the weekend.
Reports from the north suggest that the versatile Hendrie, 23, who can play as a full-back or in midfield, has been lined up by Paul Hurst as a second addition to his squad this month.
The first signing, left-back Max Lowe on loan from Derby, made his Town debut in a cameo in yesterday's entertaining cup tie with West Ham.
Hendrie was unable to secure a loan extension at Bradford, with his Burnley contract up in the summer.
Hurst was keen to secure the Burnley man's services last summer, but the Yorkshire-born stopper spent the first half of the season at League One rivals Bradford.
If Hendrie – who play right back on loan with Kilmarnock last season – checks into Montgomery Waters Meadow, he would provide significant cover to both the backline and midfield ranks at Town.
One-time Manchester United youngster Hendrie is related to Villa's former England international Lee Hendrie.
It could also signal the end of Joe Riley's Shrews career. The right-sided defender has found it difficult to claw a first-team spot from James Bolton and was left out of the squad that did battle with David Moyes' Hammers.
