Boss Paul Hurst gave key players Stefan Payne and Ben Godfrey breathers against Blackpool in a bid to help them recapture top form.

The duo dropped to the bench for Saturday's Montgomery Waters Meadow victory as Carlton and Bryn Morris were selected to start.

Payne has one goal in nine league games after previously netting six in 10.

On-loan Norwich man Ben Godfrey's form has stuttered in comparison to the high performance levels he showed in the early months of the campaign.

Town's boss said: "Bryn has been unlucky at times, he has his injury and then had to be patient to get a turn, he's had a couple of games and then come out and same with Carlton.

"I just thought Stef has perhaps looked as though it's weighing heavily on him that he hasn't scored for a little while. I can't fault his work rate.

"Same with Ben, I have to remind myself what age Ben is. I don't of late he has been as good as what he can be, but that's no slight on him – I think we've all been delighted with how he's done.

"They're both massive parts of the squad, as well as others who didn't get on. It's always a squad effort. Lenny (John-Lewis) came on for a short space of time and did well, there's no better sight for me when the ball goes up and he protects it. It's a great sub to make."

Hurst's old Rotherham team-mate and Blackpool boss Gary Bowyer was left from far from pleased as his side were denied a penalty decision moments before Jon Nolan struck Town's winner.

Omar Beckles appeared to catch Tangerine man Kelvin Mellor in the Town boss. Bowyer said: "We had a nailed-on penalty. We’ve looked at it again, and Kelvin has said their lad has said that (it was a penalty).

"That’s a little bit how our luck is going at this minute."
