Town decide not to 'fight losing battle' in appealing Abu Ogogo ban

Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst has decided against appealing the three-match ban to skipper Abu Ogogo, saying it would be like fighting a losing battle.

Hurst admitted to be without 'leader' Ogogo, who was shown a straight red card in Saturday's win at Rotherham, was a big blow to his side's plans.

But Hurst, whose side travel to rock-bottom Bury tomorrow night without Ogogo available, referenced the failed appeal to fellow midfield man Ben Godfrey after his red card against Walsall in the Checkatrade Trophy.

The boss said: "Having looked at it I don't think there's any real intent there.

"But having lost Ben Godfrey's appeal, where he clearly gets the ball, I think we'd be going into a fight that we were destined to lose.

"With that in mind we'll have to take it on the chin and move on unfortunately.

"He'll be a big loss, he's the captain and the leader but I think we're getting to a point where the squad's going to be tested between now and January and then who knows what'll happen when the transfer window opens.

"It's certainly a loss we didn't want."
