Ben Godfrey feels Shrewsbury’s never-say-die attitude has been a key factor in their success so far this campaign.

The 19-year-old midfielder is on loan from Norwich City until January and has been a mainstay in the Salop starting XI.

A player who prides himself on giving his all in every game, he feels his style complements the side well.

“We never give up. In football, you are not guaranteed to have a good game but you can always work hard, run yourself into the ground,” said Godfrey.

“We look to do that and we will never give up, no matter what the situation.

“It starts from the staff, they remind us of it all of the time – running distances and things like that. It is incredible what hard work can do.”

As you may expect given Town’s form, 15 games unbeaten, the squad are in high spirits.

Godfrey insists they know when the time is right for a laugh and a joke, and said: “There is a lot of banter but when it comes to work time, we are serious about that.

“The mood at the minute is unbelievable and when it is work time, we do that properly.”

Godfrey has shone in the middle of the park alongside Abu Ogogo and Jon Nolan.

On playing with those two, he added: “It’s not just a coincidence. We speak about it thoroughly and work on it in training all week. It’s a really good partnership and an honour to be in there with them.”
