Reports in The Sun over the weekend linked Manchester United's 20-year-old Henderson – who has been away on England under-21 duty – with a move to Arsenal and Benfica.

The shot-stopper's Old Trafford contract runs out in the summer and it is suggested United boss Jose Mourinho has a battle no his hands to tie Henderson down to another deal.

After tasting first-team football with Paul Hurst's former side Grimsby and now under Hurst at Shrewsbury, Henderson wants assurances of his own first-team football, rather than more under-23 action.

But the speculation, which could rumble on if the Cumbrian-born goalkeeper does not sign a new United contract, will not jeopardise Henderson's so-far successful Montgomery Waters Meadow stay .

Already a crowd favourite, he has kept five clean sheets from 10 League One games for Hurst's side during their inspired start to League One, putting in some commanding displays and impressing with his sharp reflexes.

Henderson is on-loan at Town for the entire season and it is understood all parties are particularly pleased with how the season is playing out.

The keeper's representatives are in regular contact with Shrewsbury's hierarchy, while Manchester United will be pleased the prospect is enjoying regular game time.

He missed Saturday's draw at Walsall while away with England's Young Lions, but the under-20 World Cup winner failed to make the bench during Friday's victory against Scotland.

Henderson has another chance at his under-21s bow as Aidy Boothroyd's side have another European Championship qualifier in Andorra tomorrow.

It is the second time this season the Carlisle youth product has been away on international duty, with ex-Walsall shot-stopper Craig MacGillivray filling in between the sticks.
