The ex-Kidderminster man, 25, struck the first goal of his Football League career in style with a 94th-minute winner at Doncaster on Tuesday night.

The Frenchman, who also scored in the Checkatrade Trophy at Coventry, has not yet started a game for Paul Hurst’s side in League One.

But after his dramatic cameo in Yorkshire, the attacker is ready to show what is likely to be a larger-than-normal home crowd what he has to offer when Scunthorpe are the visitors this weekend.

Hurst revealed that his assistant Chris Doig had been the inspiration behind Gnahoua’s 87th-minute introduction, also explaining how other Town players had a gut-feeling Gnahoua would make the net bulge.

“They (team-mates) see that I’m a good player so they keep on supporting me every day in training, that’s a good feeling,” said Gnahoua.

“In training I had to prove myself because they didn’t really know me – I had to show them I could play. Now they’ve got more faith in me.

“The lads say that I do it (score) most of the time in training so they knew I was going to score.

“It’s even better to do it in front of the fans though, I hope that can continue.

“I hope the fans can come on Saturday as well and that I can get another chance to play in front of them.”

Gnahoua was a full-time professional with National League North outfit Kidderminster last season but stepped up three divisions with his switch to Montgomery Waters Meadow in the summer.

A quiet and reserved figure, he is grateful to the opportunity handed to him by Hurst but also has confidence in his own ability.

He added: “I’ve got to keep on believing and working hard in training. If I don’t get more minutes (on the pitch) I’ve got to keep my head up.

“They’re supporting me every day in training.

“I just hope I can continue working hard and believing in myself.

“I just hope every time I come on I can get a goal!

“They came to watch my games (at Kidderminster) so they knew I was a good player but I’ve had to prove it at this level.

“I’m happy they believed in me and gave me a chance to play.”
