Jack Grimmer not shocked by flying Shrewsbury Town start

Jack Grimmer didn’t expect to be reunited with his former Shrewsbury colleagues so soon.

Little more than a few months after ending his final loan spell at Montgomery Waters Meadow, the popular full-back’s Coventry side welcome Town to the Ricoh Arena in the Checkatrade Trophy tonight.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a busy start to life in sky blue; he is one of only two players who, under Mark Robins, have played every minute of the season so far.

But that doesn’t stop the Scot immediately looking out for results of the club he represented 58 times across three loans.

Grimmer hasn’t been at all surprised by Paul Hurst’s Town’s superb start to League One.

“The last couple of seasons it’s gone down to the end of the season with fighting relegation but it seems now that they feel more at home in the league,” he said.

“It’s been a brilliant start but you hear the manager talk about not getting carried away and taking it game by game, seeing it where it takes them.

“He’s never one to get carried away!

“I’m delighted for them and everything connected to the club that they’ve had such a strong start. It’s exciting times.”

Town have won three and drawn one in the league and were unfortunate in going down at Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.

“I’m actually not surprised about how they’ve started,” Grimmer added.

“After the way he was speaking last season about what he expected from them this season, I’m not surprised at all. I knew that Skitty (physio Chris Skitt) would have them right at it physically and fitness-wise, I knew their pre-season was tough.

“Paul Hurst made no secret that he wanted to have the fittest team in League One.

“I think if that’s the baseline for a season, then you’re always in with a chance.

“I’ve read nothing but good things about all of the additions they’ve made.

“I’m looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and the fans, it’ll be nice to see them.”
