Woodhouse died peacefully aged 98 on July 10 at a care home in Paignton, with today’s funeral service taking place at Torquay Crematorium.

A well respected master builder in the Shrewsbury area, Woodhouse became chairman at Gay Meadow in 1984, a position he held until 1991.

He was then made club president until 2002, when he relocated to Paignton.

Current chairman Roland Wycherley remembered former World War II veteran Woodhouse as a ‘true gentleman’.

He said: “Ken was one of life’s true gentlemen.

“He served in the World War II as a desert rat who fought against Rommel.

“Ken attended private school but it shows the character of the man that he enlisted himself in the army because he wanted to fight for his country.

“He was always polite but he was a strong and steely character who always kept to his word.

“Ken was a chairman who will be remembered for helping the club continue through some tough times.

“After moving he would always pop along to see the team when we played Torquay or the other sides in the area.

“He will be missed by everyone at the club and our thoughts are with his son Paul, all of his family and friends.”
