Youngsters have plenty to cheer with Shrewsbury Town in the Community

Shropshire Kids Festival took place with Shrewsbury Town in the Community taking over this year’s Sports Zone, looking to make a variety of sports available for everyone.

The aim was to get as many children as possible to try out a new sport, regardless of age, size and ability.

The Sports Zone was packed with a range of different sports, from hockey to martial arts, with the aim of making each one ‘user friendly’. Those with disabilities, those who might lack confidence or those who’d never really taken to sport were all be able to have a go.

Day one also saw Shrewsbury Town in the Community’s disability teams and soccer school participants take to the festival show pitch, as our coaches delivered fun and entertaining sessions.

Day two gave our RTC (Regional Talent Club) girls a chance to show their skills, with cricket, hockey and mini netball some of the other sports available to try over the two days.

Children received a Sports Zone challenge card and completed different sporting trials as they made their way around each activity.

After completing the challenges, children were able to exchange their cards for prizes, which included free tickets to Shrewsbury Town matches,

Shrewsbury Town in The Community’s development manager Tom Peevor said: “It was a fantastic event for all involved, lots and lots of families had the opportunity to not only see local sports clubs but take part in their activities. It was great to promote all the local clubs in Shropshire and this will hopefully encourage more children to get active.”
