The football club’s charity partnership include a number of programmes in a bid to promote sport and healthy living throughout the community.

And new initiatives have been opened up to young girls with a love of the game.

They recently launched ‘wildcats’ centres for girls between the ages of five-11, while today marks the launch of girls development centres for under-13s, under-15s and under-17s.

Head of Shrewsbury Town In The Community, Jamie Edwards, said: “Women’s football in general is obviously a massive growth area for the country so it’s something we want to really develop. We want to have a pathway from the wildcats centres that will turn into a girls development centre where they can be representing Shrewsbury Town from the age of eight all the way up to the ladies team.”

Shrewsbury Town Ladies are a branch of the charity’s community programme and compete in the West Midlands Regional Women’s League Division One (North).

Their manager Sean Evans recently stood down after four years as boss, with the club searching a potential replacement.

Edwards added: “Whether it be a male or female pathway it comes back to that one town and one club philosophy.”

“We will be making sure that everybody – whatever their age, sex, ability or disability – get the opportunity to represent Shrewsbury Town Football Club,” he added.
