Video: Armed Forces to drop into Town

Manager Micky Mellon hopes the positive atmosphere created by Armed Forces Day at Shrewsbury Town can help give his team lift-off against Colchester.

Town head into the game desperate to end a run of three straight defeats, on a day when the club will celebrate its relationship with the Armed Forces.

Supporters will be able to take part in a number of activities around Greenhous Meadow pre-match tomorrow.

The entertainment will culminate in the delivery of the match ball on to the pitch by an RAF helicopter.

And Mellon quipped: "It will be terrific to see it delivered in that manner – hopefully it will be dropping into Colchester's net too."

He went on: "The results have not gone our way the last three games as everyone knows but this is a good opportunity to turn it around.

"It gives us an opportunity to get things going again."

After three straight defeats on the road, Mellon is keen for his team to take advantage of a fixture list which sees them play three of their next four at home.

That would mean improving a record which has seen them claim just one victory at the Greenhous Meadow.

Mellon believes there is no one reason for their disappointing home form.

He said: "It's been a collection of a lot of things, individual errors, crazy goals, spells in games when we haven't punished teams by taking our chances. That is the league we are in now.

"You get punished for most of the mistakes you make and at the other end it is harder to create chances because you are playing against better quality opposition.

"But we are a new group which has been brought together again. We are still building and people have to remember that."

Pre-match activities include a mobile climbing wall, static helicopter tour, laser pigeon shooting, military arsenal display and tours of the latest military vehicles.

Town have provided 500 free tickets for Forces personnel and their families for the match.
