The 27-year-old forward, who began his career at Blackpool, is understood to be nearing an exit from the New Lawn club, with Town boss Micky Mellon set to swoop.

Chief executive Matt Williams said today: "He is a player the manager knows well from his time at Fleetwood.

"We have had several discussions with the player. Hopefully things will become clearer soon and he will become a Shrewsbury player."

Mellon, whose side will play Watford at home tomorrow, snapped up ex-Tranmere Rovers midfielder Andy Robinson and former Barnsley midfielder Jordan Clark yesterday after both had impressed on trial at the Greenhous Meadow.

And having added summer signings 14 and 15, the Town chief immediately declared that his side will be 'good to go' if he can land Mangan.

Mellon said: "There's one more target that has been on-going a long time now so fingers crossed that gets done and then we will be good to go."

Meanwhile, both of his latest signings are vowing to make the most of their chance, and Robinson, a 34-year-old veteran of more than 300 games for Leeds, Swansea and Tranmere, said: "I haven't come here to have a swansong.

"I am here to win things and win games, and push on in my career because you can never be too old to win things and get better."

Clark , 20, meanwhile, has thanked the Town players and staff for making him feel at home while on trial, and revealed that he has got close family ties to the club.

He said: "I've got family down here so I've got a lot to live up to now I've signed .

"I've got family that live in Market Drayton and my dad's family have been season ticket holders here for a long time. I just can't wait to get started now to be honest. I'm really looking forward to it."

Mellon has decided not to pursue his interest in two other trialists, former Tranmere man Craig Curran and ex-Birmingham City striker Akwasi Asante.
