Shropshire favourite Joe Hart has returned home to offer a ringing endorsement of Shrewsbury Town's League Two promotion chances.

Hart, who still keeps close tabs on the fortunes of his former club, has been encouraged by Town's progress to the cusp of the automatic promotion places.

And, despite last night's dramatic events, the England No. 1 believes Town are well placed to bring League One football back to the county town.

"Shrewsbury are flying - I just wish I knew someone there to say well done!" said Hart, acknowledging the dramatic changes in playing staff of recent seasons. "It's my home-town club and they are doing well so it's nice.

"It's set up perfectly for League One and I don't think they will have any problems.

"There a great fanbase and town and, with the new stadium and facilities, they can pull players in."

The Manchester City shot-stopper was back in Shropshire to promote the Joe Hart HD Sports World National Schools tournament.

The week-long event started on Monday with 16 boys' teams from Shropshire and beyond doing battle at under-13 and 14 level, while the girls tournament starts tomorrow.

And Hart also used his Shropshire return to speak for the first time about his former England Under-21 team-mate Fabrice Muamba as the Bolton midfielder continues his recovery from a cardiac arrest.

"All I know is I think a lot Fabrice as a person and a player and hopefully everyone's good wishes from across the football world will help him," added Hart, who turns 25 next month.

"He's a good lad and a good footballer and I think a lot of him."
