Former Market Drayton Town bosses lined up to return

Former bosses Simon Line and Martyn Davies are being lined up for a shock return to Market Drayton Town.

The developments emerged at a public meeting of club supporters on Tuesday night, held by long-term backroom worker and current caretaker manager Mick Murphy in response to the dramatic resignations on Sunday of chairman Ben Cockram and vice-chairman Rupert Dyke.

Line, the legendary former Town manager generally credited with lifting the club to its present level, is surprisingly in line to spearhead a revamp.

The big unanswered question however, is whether Davies, a player, leading scorer, coach and manager at Town for 18 years who is now rebuilding his career as joint-manager at successful Whitchurch Alport, will respond to Town’s overtures to return as boss.

He said: “I honestly do not know. I am very happy at Whitchurch, thoroughly enjoy what I’m doing and appreciate the opportunity they have given me.”
