He will now work alongside current manager Dave Richards as Shawbury, one of the foot of the table, look for an upturn in fortunes.

Richards said: “Having Martyn as part of Shawbury’s already strong management team adds another dimension to what is required at this level of football in the Midland Football League.”

Club secretary Dai Martin added: “The club has moved quickly to secure the services of Martyn following his recent departure from Drayton.

“He brings a wealth of experience both as a player and as manager and bolsters the already high-quality coaching staff of Buster (Dave Richards), Stu Lewis and Dave Cooper.

"Off the field, Martyn has two young children and, when not playing or managing, values family life highly.

“He can often be seen bringing his children to games as he understands the value of grassroots football and the nurturing of the future prospects for local teams, something we value highly at Shawbury.”
