Market Drayton Town skipper Paul McMullen set for year on sidelines
Market Drayton Town have been dealt a huge blow ahead of the upcoming campaign with skipper Paul McMullen set for up to a year on the sidelines.
The long-serving centre-half faces a complex operation on his foot and ankle after specialists discovered a deep-seated nerve and blood vessel damage.
Boss Martyn Davies has handed the captaincy to Dan Beddows for the Evo-Stik First Division South campaign while McMullen completes his rehabilitation.
The defender is wearing a large ski boot contraption under the guidance of doctors.
The news came as the Greenfields side secured a 1-0 friendly success over Stafford Rangers on Tuesday night.
There could also be a ban in store for forward Scott Ryan, who was dismissed during last weekend’s 3-2 defeat at Newtown, for reported foul language.
