AFC Telford United working hard on new signings
Kevin Wilkin has revealed that AFC Telford United have made a number of approaches for new players on both permanent and loan deals.
Alex Gudger became the latest player to depart the club after his loan spell was cut short by Brackley Town, who subsequently loaned him to Telford’s title rivals Kettering Town.
The Bucks squad currently has just 17 players in it, and Wilkin confirmed there is work being done behind the scenes to bolster his options ahead of the season’s run in.
“Nothing will happen on that front before the Biggleswade game, but we’ve got some irons in the fire,” the Bucks boss said. “We’ve put in some seven-day approaches for a couple of players which we can’t action until the end of the week.”
He added: “I’ve got to speak to Derby about Harry (Hawkins) staying with us, and hopefully there’s still an eagerness for him to be here.”
“He’s enjoyed his time with us and had a really good game on Saturday.
“We’ve got our eyes on other players now who will hopefully come in there (and replace Gudger).
“We’ve got our eye on one other centre half, but I’m not counting out that we might bring Joe (Morris) back.
“Like we’ve seen with loans though, if you find yourself in a position where the parent club wants him back it can leave you in a bit of a tight spot, as we saw with Jakub (Kruszynski) and Joe.
Wilkin also confirmed that the club are hoping to secure the services of current loanee Max Borgan beyond the next few weeks, with his deal set to expire this month.
He said: “Max has got a couple of games left with us, and it will all depend on Scunthorpe’s situation, but certainly there’s a keenness from us to retain his services.”
