The 25-year-old was attracting admiring glances from further up the pyramid after a short but exciting spell for Telford last season.

McHale scored four goals in 16 appearances, standing out in the Bucks’ second successive curtailed campaign.

He has enjoyed a somewhat nomadic existence in football since leaving Manchester City’s academy as a teenager, playing for a range of clubs including Football League side Barnsley, Cypriot club Achyronas Liopetriou and several non-league teams.

But McHale hopes he has finally found a home in Shropshire. Speaking in November, he said: “I’ve always gone from club to club because I’d never put 100 per cent in. Now, being here at Telford with what I’m around with the gaffer, staff and players and at home with my new daughter, it has matured me.

“You can’t miss a week, you can’t miss a session, you’ve got to be on it 100 per cent every game and training session. Joining Telford and my daughter being born has definitely helped that.”

McHale joins club captain Adam Walker and defender Ross White in signing deals for the 2021/22 season – while striker Aaron Williams and defender Courtney Meppen-Walter have departed the New Bucks Head.

Following his departure, Williams tweeted: “Wishing Telford all best in future. Had a great time here! On to new adventures!”
