Boss Gavin Cowan has urged midfielder Jud Ellis to believe in himself more as he could prove to be a ‘big player’ for AFC Telford United.

Ellis, signed last summer from Market Drayton Town, got his first taste of National League North action last weekend.

He came on as a late substitute in the 3-1 win over Curzon Ashton, and Cowan thinks that should just be the start as long as his mentality matches his ability.

“Jud ability-wise is far greater than his career history suggests,” said the Bucks chief.

“He is a very good player and is more than capable at this level, it is just down to his mentality.

“He needs to understand how important it is at this level, the stakes are higher the higher you go.

“We want to work with him and if he wants that remains to be seen, but he is undoubtedly good enough.

“If you see him in training the lads can’t wait to get him on their team.

“He has ability but we need to work on the mindset, because I think he could be a big player for us.”

Ellis has worked his way into Telford contention after impressing during a loan spell at Hednesford Town, who play one step below the Bucks in the Northern Premier League.

He also started the recent Shropshire Senior Cup final loss to Shrewsbury.
