Gavin Cowan: AFC Telford can be 'even better'

Gavin Cowan believes his side can get even better despite putting Leamington to the sword in their 4-1 victory this afternoon.

The Bucks recovered from a goal down to go 2-1 up at the break, thanks to Brendon Daniels and Amari Morgan-Smith.

In the second period, despite the odd spell of Leamington pressure the home side made it three through Morgan-Smith, before the visitors lost two men to red cards.

Daniel Udoh wrapped things up in stoppage time, and Cowan insisted performance like the two festive ones have been coming for a while.

He said: "I was pleased with it today, they did everything we asked of them.

"I think we can be even better than that, it was a dominant performance today.

"The front two stretched them and did well, and everyone did their part and did what was required of them on the pitch.

"We're pleased with four goals and it has been coming for a while, and will continue if we play with freedom.

"We have been asking them to play with freedom and courage, and they did that again today."

Prior to the two festive victories, the Bucks had suffered three league defeats on the bounce.

The boss believes some of that may have been down to unnecessary pressure from outside his dressing room.

He added: "We have expectation from within, but I felt there was unnecessary pressure from outside.

"We are far exceeding expectations when you take everything into account, so the only pressure should be from within.

"We asked for freedom and excitement, and as staff when they practice it and then do it on the pitch it is a rewarding feeling."

Morgan-Smith grabbed the headlines with his brace and one assist, which makes it three goals in as many games for the striker.

And Cowan praised the striker, but reserved kind words for all his players after a second win in two.

He added: "He will take the headlines and rightly so I suppose.

"But everyone contributed who came on the field, so we could way lyrical and single all of them out.

"The hardest thing is to put the ball in the net, but equally Brendon Daniels hooks one off the line and that is as good as a goal for me."
