AFC Telford's Daniel Udoh keeping his head down

Striker Daniel Udoh has vowed to knuckle down in a bid to continue his hot streak in front of goal for AFC Telford United.

Udoh has scored three goals in the Bucks’ last two games – victories against Spennymoor Town and Brackley.

And with his old club Chester coming to town on Saturday, the 21-year-old is refusing to rest on his laurels.

“I’m getting to that age where I really need to get my head down,” said Udoh.

“Luckily for me, I’ve got a manager here in Gavin (Cowan) that allows me to go out there and play – as long as I work hard and take on the messages.

“I feel free when I’m out there playing at the moment and that’s something which I haven’t felt for quite a long time.”

Udoh joined Telford this summer after spending the back end of last campaign on loan at National League North rivals Leamington from Crewe Alexandra.

Getting himself some early goals and being part of a Bucks side unbeaten after five games, he is happy with how things are going but, again, is striving for more.

“I’m really happy with how things are going – for myself and for the team,” said Udoh.

“It’s early days, though, and we can’t let ourselves get too excited. Myself and the team have just got to keep working hard.”

Udoh, who was released by Crewe at the end of last campaign, has hailed Telford’s more experienced heads for helping him to settle in.

He feels the squad has just the right balance of youthful exuberance and non-league nous, adding: “There’s a good mix of young boys and older lads.

“That’s what you want because if some of us younger lads are feeling a bit nervous before a game, the more experienced players are there to reassure you.

“We’re just working hard and enjoying ourselves.

“We’re happy with how we’ve done but, at the same time, we were a little bit disappointed we didn’t win at Guiseley a couple of weeks ago – conceding so late – so there’s things to work on.

“We’re just taking each game as it comes and listening to the manager.”
